Sunday Morning Coming Down
The digital age has changed so many areas of our lives. Accessing information is easier, entertainment is “on demand” and life in general is faster. It’s easy to pontificate on how technology has changed work or school, but here’s something you may have not considered.
The digital age has made the early mornings much more bearable. Is that an odd statement? Sure, but hear me out.
I am a 22-year-old recent college graduate. I went out pretty much every weekend while in school, and still enjoy a good time on the town these days; when my grown up, real life schedule allows.
As Johnny Cash told us in the hit song that inspired this column, when you go wild the night before, the next morning isn’t quite so fun. Of course, nowadays it helps that we have a cell phone or tablet at arm’s length. It provides an excuse to stay in bed longer, and not have to move for instant entertainment.
I always enjoy passing the time by catching up on football news those weekend mornings. I know several friends who have certain writer’s columns bookmarked as their weekly cure.
So, that’s what this column will be. Backyard Banter's Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down is a weekly, easy reading feature to occupy your time early on the final weekend day.
Every week you’ll get the following from me:
- A few random NFL thoughts
- Some recommendations—could be football related, music or anything under the sun—to check out after reading
- A look into my film room (should read, random corner of my apartment) in “What I’m Watching This Week”
- One parting shot about the team I know best, the Carolina Panthers
Of course, there’s no discriminating here. You can enjoy this column even if you aren’t in bed suffering, or back from the walk of shame. Check it out on you way home from church, at a boring Sunday brunch or—if you’re a sucker like me—at work.
So play the Johnny Cash song, grab a coffee and pull this page up Sunday morning. Maybe it’ll help you get through a recovery, or add to a joyous morning with your family.
Either way, I hope you enjoy and good morning.
